Roundtable ‘Bringing Business to Ukraine’

This week in Zurich, business leaders from Ukraine and those looking to enter the country joined leading global scholars to discuss navigating wartime uncertainty, exploring opportunities, and supporting Ukraine’s economic development.

The closed-door roundtable was jointly organized by the European Business Association, Global Business for Ukraine, and the University of Zurich. Drawing on insights from both on-the-ground businesses and academia, the discussion shed light on the challenges and needs of businesses during the war and fostered stronger collaboration between the two parties.

Anna Derevyanko, EBA Executive Director and GB4U CEO and Co-Founder, shared a presentation highlighting the current state of Ukrainian businesses, the investment climate as assessed by the business community, and key challenges, including labour shortages and energy disruptions. Anna also underscored the critical importance of building strong institutions to ensure the rule of law, a more transparent economy, and effective anti-corruption measures.

Scholars offered academic perspectives on strategies businesses can adopt to navigate the extreme uncertainty caused by the war and priorities for successful post-war reconstruction.

We extend our gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and contributions to the discussion. Special thanks to the University of Zurich, particularly Prof. Andreas Scherer and David Sieber MSc, for hosting the event and guiding the dialogue. We hope this meeting provided valuable insights and fostered solutions to some of the most pressing issues.
