On November 27, 2024, a Ukrainian team made history by winning the prestigious EIT Health InnoStars Awards, thanks to the innovative HealthTech startup CheckEye. This victory marks a transformative milestone for the Ukrainian medical technology sector, showcasing the ability of Ukrainian teams to create groundbreaking innovations that not only redefine approaches to healthcare but also shape its future on the global stage.
Founded in 2022, CheckEye leverages artificial intelligence to perform large-scale screening for chronic diseases. The platform integrates the expertise of Ukrainian practicing doctors and leading researchers from the Filatov Institute with cutting-edge technology, ensuring precision and scalability. This unique combination earned CheckEye the recognition of the judging panel, making it the first Ukrainian startup to claim this international award.
“Two years of implementing innovations amidst the challenges of a full-scale war have proven their effectiveness in Ukraine and have now been recognized by Europe. This victory paves the way for scaling our expertise across EU countries and globally”,said Kyrylo Goncharuk, Founder and CEO of CheckEye, who presented the startup during the grand finale in Budapest.
The EIT Health InnoStars Awards is a leading program established by the European Commission in 2016. It supports startups from Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe, fostering innovation in healthcare by providing access to international markets, partnerships, and funding.
“CheckEye’s victory underscores the potential of Ukrainian technologies. The synergy between the experience of Ukrainian medical practitioners, the scientific achievements of the Filatov Institute, and AI capabilities for large-scale chronic disease screening lays the groundwork for preserving the quality of life for millions worldwide. I am proud to see this vision realized through our team’s platform and recognized by the European community as both important and timely”, Kyrylo added.
This achievement opens new opportunities for scaling, international collaboration, and attracting investment. It demonstrates that Ukraine is not only a symbol of resilience but also a hub of innovations that are reshaping the world.
